While FireFenda can connect to standard garden hoses, we strongly recommend using fire resilient hoses for optimal bushfire protection. Here's why:
Firefighting-grade hoses offer critical advantages:
Higher kPa Pressure rating for reliable performance
UV and weather-resistant outer layer for durability in extreme conditions
Quality brass fittings for secure connections and heat resistance
Non-kinking design ensures consistent water flow when you need it most
Standard garden hoses will effectively work with your FireFenda system to create protective water coverage, saturating your home, ground, and surrounding areas - providing good defense against ember attack and radiant heat. However, for properties in high-risk areas or where direct fire front impact is possible, firefighting-grade hoses offer additional reliability and heat resistance when you need it most.
Most small to medium homes can be effectively protected with 3-4 FireFenda units strategically placed around the property. The exact number depends on your home's size, layout, and specific risk areas. Key factors to consider include:
Property size and shape
Roof design and access points
Areas requiring priority protection
Local bushfire risk factors
Available water pressure
Our free consultation service can help determine the optimal number and placement of units for your specific situation, ensuring comprehensive protection against ember attack and radiant heat.
Yes! FireFenda systems work effectively with pump setups, offering powerful protection when mains water isn't available or when you need enhanced water pressure. Whether you're using a permanent pump installation or a portable firefighting pump, we can help ensure optimal performance.
Key considerations for pump setups include:
Required water pressure for optimal coverage
Pump capacity and flow rates
Suction height from water source
Number of FireFenda units being operated

Yes! FireFenda is designed for complete flexibility and easy expansion. The system uses standard BSP hose fittings, making it simple to connect multiple sprinkler units. Your water source - whether mains pressure, tank, dam, or pump system - will determine how many units you can effectively run together. Each additional unit increases your protection zone, allowing you to create a comprehensive bushfire defense perimeter around your property.
While remote activation via smartphone is the ultimate convenience in bushfire protection, especially when away from home, FireFenda currently focuses on reliable manual operation. However, we can provide expert guidance on integrating remote activation capabilities with your FireFenda system. As a registered plumber with extensive experience, our founder can advise on compatible smart irrigation controllers and automation options to enhance your bushfire defense setup.
